Playful Strategy Weekly: Man, Play, and Games 1.1 “Free”

Playful Strategy Weekly is a new series of short videos in which I share elements, thoughts, and illustrations from a variety of play related books and articles I read. In this very first edition, we begin with the definition of Play from the seminal Man, Play, and Games from French sociologist Roger Caillois.

In the book, he defines play as an activity containing six main characteristics, or qualities, and we begin with the first in this video

I illustrate the points made in the video thanks to Apple’s nearly 7 minutes long advert: “The whole-working-from-home-thing” and thanks to Allie Walker’s Medium post I quote. On the more positive side, Matt Mullenweg’s perspective on why working from home is good for business is worth watching (he is the founder and CEO of Automattic / WordPress).
