Playful Strategy Weekly: Man, Play, and Games 1.5 “Governed by rules”

Playful Strategy Weekly is an Ice Cream for Everyone series of short videos in which I share elements, thoughts, and illustrations from a variety of play related books and articles I read. In the third episode, we continue with the definition of play as an activity from the seminal Man, Play, and Games from French sociologist Roger Caillois.

In the book, he defines play as an activity containing six main characteristics, or qualities. The fifth one is “governed by rules.”

I illustrate the points made in the video thanks to Carlsberg’s “If Carlsberg did supermarkets…” and The UK National Sports Council and UK Lottery “This Girl Can,” and finally Libra’s Blood Simple.
